Cosmetics Q & A

What is radiofrequency cosmetic treatment?

Radiofrequency refers to a type of energy that uses wavelengths to produce heat. When used as a cosmetic treatment, the radiofrequency energy penetrates deep tissue layers, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. These proteins provide your skin with its strength and elasticity to create firmer, tighter, more robust tissue. The heat energy also helps constrict existing proteins to firm the area.

Dr. Amirgholami uses radiofrequency treatments to tighten and rejuvenate vaginal tissue, often referred to as vaginal rejuvenation.

Who is a good candidate for vaginal rejuvenation?

Dr. Amirgholami determines if you’re a good candidate for radiofrequency treatment after an examination and review of your health history. She usually offers the treatment to women who are at least two to three months postpartum to help tighten and restore vaginal tissue.

Vaginal laxity is a concern for many women after they have a baby, which may affect your ability to enjoy intimate moments with your partner or cause urinary incontinence or leakage. Dr. Amirgholami offers this treatment to help bring back the romance to your bedroom and improve vaginal health.

What is Intense-Pulsed Light (IPL)?

IPL is a highly specialized cosmetic tool that emits pulsed lightnot a laserto treat a number of aesthetic concerns, including skin discoloration and unwanted hair. Dr. Amirgholami offers IPL treatments for hair removal.

How does IPL remove unwanted hair?

During treatment, the IPL light energy targets the hair follicle and destroys it, preventing further hair growth, without damaging your surrounding tissue. IPL treatments, when compared to laser hair removal treatments, tend to be more comfortable and precise. IPL treatments are also effective on different skin colors, including light and dark skin.

For the best results, you may need a series of treatments set at three-to-four month intervals. Dr. Amirgholami will develop a treatment plan for you before you get started so you know what to expect.

She can use her IPL treatment to remove hair from your:

  • Face
  • Arms and underarms
  • Bikini area
  • Legs
  • Back

Once the hair is removed from a particular follicle, it won’t grow back. However, IPL treatment can’t stop the development of new hair follicles in the treatment area. To stay hair-free, Dr. Amirgholami recommends maintenance IPL hair removal treatments as needed.
